Mugello is a district of the region of Toscana North of Florence, a valley of the Appennini Hills and the River Sieve, since long time described as “the most beautiful of our countryside […] upon these hills there is a perfect soil yielding wheat and fodder in abundance as well as fruit, oil and wine.” (Giovanni di Pagolo Morelli 1371-1444).

My Half Day bike excursion starts from the capital of the district Borgo San Lorenzo direction Scarperia, famous “Terra Murata” of the Republic of Florence in the XIV Century to see the imposing Vicari Palace. After the stop we follow the wide roads of the Valley up to the short uphill to Poggio Medici, before the village of San Piero a Sieve, end of the loop.

The agrarian region Mugello is one of the most impressive expressions of the Tuscan Countryside where you have artistic treasures in local Museums, medieval Borghi, elegant Villas and gardens, fields of olives and vineyards and breeding of sheeps and cattle.  For this the Mugello agrarian system is an organic short chain food supply of Toscana of high quality as Milk, cheese and honey. Not to talk about chestnuts and the fampus Tortelli.
